SENTINEL-GEO Dual-Sensor Seismic Monitoring Station with MEMS Accelerometer & Velocimeter
SENTINEL-GEO is a dual instrument. It is a premium-quality accelerograph with an embedded triaxial velocimeter, an excellent solution for weak- and strong-motion measurements simultaneously for structural monitoring and seismology with budget-sensitive constraints.
The instrument can be used for rapid deployment for H/V measurements in the field.
OVERVIEW
Description
High-Performance, Cost-Effective Seismic Monitoring Solution
SENTINEL-GEO is a compact, high-performance seismic monitoring system designed for reliable strong-motion and weak-motion measurements in both temporary and permanent deployments.
At its core is an onboard triaxial MEMS accelerometer, synchronously sampled up to 1000 samples per second (sps) with 20-bit resolution, delivering a dynamic range greater than 85 dB and ultra-low self-noise below 18 µg/√Hz (up to 500 sps).
To maximize measurement accuracy across all seismic intensities, SENTINEL-GEO integrates both an accelerometer and a velocimeter. The velocimeter provides exceptional sensitivity for detecting small and distant events, while the accelerometer ensures accurate recording of strong-motion earthquakes without saturation. This dual-sensor architecture guarantees high-quality data for structural monitoring, seismic networks, and research applications.
The system features 32 GB to 256 GB of internal storage, supporting long-term continuous recording via ring-buffer as well as event-based acquisition. All data are stored in the industry-standard MiniSEED format for seamless compatibility and analysis.
Advanced event detection algorithms (STA/LTA and threshold triggering) intelligently filter environmental noise and operational vibrations, ensuring only true seismic events are captured.
An integrated GNSS receiver provides precise absolute time synchronization, enabling accurate multi-station network operation and correlation of seismic data.
Easy Deployment and Remote Operation
SENTINEL-GEO is designed for effortless configuration and operation:
- Local control via LAN or Wi-Fi
- Optional integrated 4G modem for remote access and real-time data transmission
- Stand-alone operation or MASTER–SLAVE network architecture for distributed monitoring systems
- Full compatibility with TRITON and ATLAS instruments for hybrid networks requiring extended dynamic range or near-field installations
Using the SeedLink protocol, SENTINEL-GEO seamlessly integrates with leading seismic software platforms including SeisComP3, Antelope, and Earthworm.
Integrated UPS for Uninterrupted Operation
The unit operates on an external 5–16 V DC power supply and includes an internal Li-Po backup battery, providing up to 5 hours of autonomous operation during power outages.
The standard 18650 battery cell is easily replaceable, and the optional internal HSPA/4G modem is also supported by the backup battery to maintain communications during blackouts.
Rugged, Field-Ready Design
SENTINEL-GEO is housed in a shock-resistant anodized aluminum enclosure, engineered for harsh environmental conditions and long-term outdoor deployment.
An adjustable mounting plate simplifies leveling and installation on a wide range of surfaces, ensuring optimal sensor alignment and data quality.
Application

The enhanced dynamic range and the tuned sensors make the SENTINEL GEO ideal for the local or regional seismicity monitoring.

Structural health monitoring is one of the main applications of SENTINEL GEO.
With tall buildings, where heavy oscillations excite the structure and the amplitude of physical signals is considerable, SENTINEL GEO performs well even if its dynamic range cannot compete with that of Triton’s.
In a scenario like this, the only high dynamic (and thus more expensive) accelerograph is placed on the ground floor, where the oscillations of the structure are negligible.
SENTINEL GEO and Triton can be interfaced and controlled using our software for Structural Health Monitoring of QUAKELOGIC.
A real-time report of the building and a post-earthquake evaluation of the structural damage can be locally displayed or trasmitted remotely.

Earthquake early warning concept is the rapid detection of earthquakes and the alerting of people to shaking.
SENTINEL GEO can detect the non-damaging P-waves and transmit the information about tremors to an alarm center or directly to predefined users before the most damaging S-waves arrive.

Induced Seismicity refers to low magnitude earthquakes caused by human activity that alters the stresses and strains on the Earth’s crust.
SENTINEL GEO is suitable for this kind of survey.
