The Gecko SMA is an all-in-one strong motion triaxial accelerograph (measuring East-West, North-South, and Up-Down) designed for structural health monitoring. It combines user-friendliness with the reliability and simplicity of a MEMS accelerometer, offering full-scale ranges from ±2g, ±5g, ±10g, and beyond—up to ±400g.

Effortless Data Storage & Installation

Data is continuously recorded and stored on an SD card in MiniSEED format, automatically organized into year/month/day/hour folders for easy browsing on any PC. Installation is equally straightforward—simply secure the Gecko SMA using the included rock anchor, drill bit/punch, and lock nut to mount the threaded rod directly into the ground.

On-Site Configuration & Power Efficiency

The standard LCD display and keypad allow full configuration without needing a PC in the field. Consuming only 1W of power, the device can run for approximately a month on a lead-acid battery similar in size to a car battery.

Connectivity & Real-Time Monitoring

All Gecko models include dual alarm outputs and support external Ethernet, WiFi, or cellular modem modules for real-time data streaming. Using our free software, Streams, users can:

• Archive and visualize real-time data remotely.
• Access live feeds via the web.
• Receive email alerts based on user-defined thresholds.

Ideal for Structural & Seismic Monitoring

The Gecko SMA employs MEMS accelerometer technology to detect high-intensity ground motion that could cause structural damage. While a magnitude 2.0 earthquake at 100 km distance may not be detected, the Gecko SMA’s wide full-scale range ensures the capture of larger or near-field events.

Although the Gecko SMA-HR offers 300 times greater sensitivity, the Gecko SMA provides a cost-effective alternative with low noise levels, making it an excellent choice for near-field blast monitoring and structural assessments.
