QL-SATURN Smart Seismic Switch is a triaxial earthquake detection and control device. It detects P-waves and S-waves and records PGA values on three axes. The unit provides selectable 0.025g–0.5g trigger levels, three Form C relays, RS-232C/USB communication, battery backup and NEMA 4 protection.
QL-SATURN Smart Seismic Switch provides 24/7 earthquake monitoring and emergency control.
First, the unit uses a solid-state triaxial accelerometer. The sensor detects vertical P-waves and horizontal S-waves on the X, Y and Z axes.
In addition, the system measures Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) in g. It stores the PGA value for each axis after a trigger event.
Users can also select trigger levels from 0.025g to 0.5g per axis. Moreover, they can set the frequency response to 1–10 Hz or 1–15 Hz.
The unit supports selectable response for ASCE 25-97, ASME A17.1 and CA3137 requirements.
The QL-SATURN also uses frequency-selective filtering. Therefore, the unit can reject industrial vibration from heavy equipment, trucks, compressors and trains.
Moreover, the unit includes three programmable Form C relays. One relay handles the common fault alarm. The other two relays handle seismic alarms.
Users can choose a latched or momentary trip mode. For example, they can set a momentary trip from 1 to 60 seconds. Alternatively, the system can stay latched until manual reset.
In addition, RS-232C or USB communication allows users to program the unit and recover recorded PGA data.
The system also includes Power-On Self-Test (POST) and diagnostic commands. Furthermore, the front-panel Test/Reset switch supports local operation.
For backup power, the unit uses a rechargeable 12 VDC, 1.2 Ah sealed lead-acid battery. As a result, it provides more than one hour of reserve at maximum demand. The unit also includes an external charger.
Finally, the standard unit uses a NEMA 4 enclosure. Available options include a NEMA 4X enclosure, bypass switch, vertical mount and mounting plate.
