OVERVIEW

Description

Overview

The QL-Servo Electromechanic Actuator 60 Kips is a high-force electromechanical actuator package for laboratory force testing, structural component evaluation, load-frame modernization, and controlled static or dynamic test setups. The official 60 Kips Electro-Mechanic Actuator User Manual identifies a 267 kN / 60 kip force capacity, a +/-150 mm mechanical stroke, 25 mm/s velocity capability, closed-loop PID control, encoder position feedback, analog load-cell force feedback, laser stroke-limit sensing, and EasyTest CONTROL software.

This actuator is intended for engineers, research laboratories, universities, structural testing groups, materials testing teams, and industrial test-system integrators that need controlled force or displacement from an electromechanical actuator rather than a hydraulic actuator package.

Why This Product

High-force testing requires more than a motorized cylinder. The actuator package combines servo motor drive, gearbox, ball-screw transmission, rigid piston body, rod-end swivel, analog load cell, position sensing, a control box, and EasyTest CONTROL software so the actuator can be integrated into a load frame and operated in either position-control or force-control mode.

Key Benefits

  • 267 kN / 60 kip force capacity for high-force laboratory and component testing.
  • +/-150 mm mechanical stroke, with a manual-noted 275 mm configured working stroke for safe operation unless changed by configuration.
  • Position-control and force-control operation through EasyTest CONTROL software.
  • Servo motor, planetary gearbox, and ball-screw actuation for electromechanical force generation.
  • Analog load-cell feedback for real-time force readings and closed-loop control.
  • Quadrature encoder position feedback and laser position sensing for stroke-limit protection.
  • Base flange / mounting support for integration with an existing load frame.
  • Quote-configured actuator platform that can be reviewed with QuakeLogic before procurement.

Applications

  • Static force testing up to 60 kips, subject to application and safety review.
  • Controlled dynamic tests with speeds up to 25 mm/s and appropriate duty-cycle limits.
  • Structural component and assembly testing.
  • Material testing systems and force-controlled test setups.
  • Displacement-controlled testing and point-to-point actuator motion.
  • Load-frame modernization or retrofit projects.
  • Mechanical performance testing in university, research, and industrial laboratories.
  • Custom test profiles, sinusoidal motion, and actuator commands through EasyTest CONTROL software.

System Components

  • Servo motor and driver: The servo driver transmits motion commands to the servo motor, with a gearbox used for high-torque operation.
  • Base flange / load-frame mounting support: Steel supports are designed to mount the actuator on the load frame.
  • Laser position sensor: Used to stop movement beyond mechanical stroke limits in forward or reverse directions.
  • Piston body: Rigid steel body housing the ball screw, coupling, bearings, and linear motion components.
  • Analog load cell: Provides force feedback for control and real-time force readings.
  • Rod-end swivel: Connects to the specimen and includes spherical bearings to accommodate small mounting inaccuracies and rotation.
  • Control box: Two-axis controller with encoder, servo-drive power, digital I/O, laser sensor, analog load-cell, and Ethernet computer connection interfaces.
  • EasyTest CONTROL software: Runs tests, controls the testing system, analyzes test data, and produces test results.

Operation Notes

The manual describes position-control mode using encoder feedback and force-control mode using the analog load-cell output as PID feedback. The actuator can execute point-to-point motion, sinusoidal motion, or custom profiles through EasyTest CONTROL software.

The actuator is designed for long-duration static tests at low speeds up to 25 mm/s. For dynamic tests with varying speeds up to 25 mm/s, the manual recommends practical usage times of 1-2 minutes with at least a 2-minute break between successive dynamic tests to reduce heating and extend service life.

Safety and Maintenance

Force testing systems are potentially hazardous because high forces, rapid motion, stored energy, and specimen failure can create crush, flying-debris, electrical, rotating-machinery, and temperature hazards. The manual requires careful review of instructions, appropriate limits, emergency-stop use, protection of cables, correct specimen alignment, and project-specific safety risk assessment before operation.

  • Check actuator bolts every 3 months or 50 hours of use, including swivel/specimen, laser sensor, load cell, piston body, base flange, motor, and gearhead fasteners.
  • Keep the actuator, test samples, laser sensor, and surrounding system clean, especially in dusty laboratory environments.
  • Before operation, confirm cable connections, component condition, cable slack, wear/chafing, and proper 3-phase and 1-phase power indication.
  • Perform periodic inspection every 6-12 months, including electrical connections, bolt connections, smooth full-range position-mode motion, and emergency-stop function.

FAQs

What is the force capacity?

The official manual lists a force capacity of 267 kN / 60 kips.

What stroke does the actuator provide?

The manual lists +/-150 mm stroke, or 300 mm total. It also notes that the laser sensor is configured for a 275 mm working stroke for safe operation unless the configuration is changed.

Does it support force control and position control?

Yes. The manual describes both position-control mode using encoder feedback and force-control mode using analog load-cell feedback through the PID control loop.

What power is required?

The servo drive requires 400-480 V AC, 3 phase, 50-60 Hz power. The control box requires 110 V AC, single phase, 60 Hz power.

Is it appropriate for dynamic testing?

The manual states that dynamic tests with varying speeds up to 25 mm/s can be handled, while recommending 1-2 minute usage periods for dynamic tests with at least a 2-minute break between successive tests.

Can QuakeLogic help confirm integration?

Yes. QuakeLogic can review load-frame mounting, control requirements, specimen fixtures, safety expectations, software workflow, documentation, commissioning, and quote configuration before procurement.
