QL-HS5K Hybrid AI FBG Interrogator

The QL-HS5K Hybrid AI FBG Interrogator is a portable C+L band sensing platform for concurrent fiber optic and electrical sensor monitoring. It supports 2 to 16 fiber channels, up to 64 FBG sensors per fiber, 32 electrical sensor channels, 5 kS/s fiber-optic sampling, and AI-enabled onboard processing for strain, vibration, acoustic emission, temperature, and multi-parameter monitoring applications.

OVERVIEW

Description

The QL-HS5K Hybrid AI FBG Interrogator is a compact and portable hybrid sensing platform. It is designed for simultaneous monitoring of fiber optic and electrical sensors in advanced industrial, research, transportation, aerospace, energy, and structural health monitoring environments. Moreover, it combines multi-channel fiber Bragg grating interrogation with synchronized electrical sensor acquisition. This makes it suitable for applications that require integrated optical and electrical data capture in one system.

This system supports 2 to 16 fiber channels. In the main text, it is described as capable of monitoring up to 64 FBG sensors per fiber. However, the summary specs panel lists 32 per fiber channel. To preserve the datasheet as-is, both values should be treated carefully during listing and quotation.

The interrogator also includes 32 electrical sensor channels. This allows hybrid measurement configurations for projects that combine fiber optic sensing with electrical transducers and actuators.

The optical sensing platform operates within an approximately 80 ±3 nm C+L band spectral range, covering roughly 1527 ±1.5 nm to 1607 ±1.5 nm. It is designed to measure strain, vibration, acoustic emission, and temperature. Furthermore, it measures related parameters such as pressure, acceleration, and force when used with suitable transducers.

Fiber-optic concurrent measurement speed is up to 5 kS/s on all FBGs on each sensing fiber. The measurable signal bandwidth is up to approximately 2 kHz for fast-dynamic events including acoustic emission.

For hybrid acquisition, the system also supports 32 electrical sensor channels with concurrent sampling speed of 6 kS/s (Option 1) or 100 kS/s (Option 2). The electrical subsystem is specified with approximately 60 dB ±15% electrical sensor dynamic range and 120 dB ±15% electrical DAQ dynamic range (20 bits).

As a result, this makes the product suitable for mixed-sensor test setups. In these setups, fiber optic measurements must be time-correlated with electrical channels.

Measurement performance includes resolution below 1 pm, sub-0.1 pm with FFT, and absolute accuracy better than ±5 pm. The temperature measurement range is listed as -200°C to 300°C, with an option for up to 1000°C.

In the specs panel, FBG-based strain range is shown as ±520 µε (64 FBGs/fiber) and ±1,040 µε (32 FBGs/fiber). Additionally, the descriptive text also states dynamic strain ranges of 1,000 µε for 64 FBGs, 2,000 µε for 32 FBGs, and 4,000 µε for 16 FBGs.

The unit includes an integrated industrial computer with 8 GB RAM and 1 or 2 TB NVMe SSD storage, running Debian 12 OS. It also includes an integrated AI module with 26 TOPS of compute power and support for TensorFlow and ONNX.

Communication is provided through Ethernet, and the system software is listed as iSenseView®. The interrogator is built in a rugged solid-state chassis with no moving parts. It operates in harsh environments from -10°C to +55°C, with storage from -20°C to +70°C. Additionally, it uses a universal 110 to 240 VAC power supply.

The product has dimensions of 255 x 372 x 162 mm, weighs approximately 8.10 kg ±10%, and includes a 15-month standard warranty.
