The QLAE-13 Arctic Enclosure (also listed as QL13AE) is a purpose-built, thermally insulated housing system that protects sensors, electronics and power systems in the coldest, wettest and most remote monitoring sites. The impact-resistant composite shell is lined on every interior surface with closed-cell polyurethane insulation (R-value ≥ 10) and sealed to IP68, so instrument heat stays in while water, snow, ice and condensation stay out. Materials are rated from −60 °C to +90 °C (−76 °F to 194 °F) and the unit has passed 30 thermal cycles between −40 °C and +60 °C.

It is designed for glaciers, permafrost, high-altitude research sites and polar field stations, where it keeps seismometers, accelerographs, infrasound sensors and batteries within their operating temperature so data acquisition continues through winter.
Enclosure materials are rated from −60 °C to +90 °C (−76 °F to 194 °F), and the unit has been thermal-cycle tested for 30 cycles between −40 °C and +60 °C. Closed-cell polyurethane insulation with an R-value of 10 or more lines every interior surface. The optional 12 V PTC self-regulating heater pad (5–20 W) and phase-change material packs hold the interior above the minimum temperature of the electronics and batteries inside.
The Base Unit is the insulated, weather-sealed enclosure with cable glands, internal mounting plate and aluminum base plate, for sites with existing infrastructure. The Heater + PCM version adds a 12 V self-regulating heater pad and phase-change material packs for variable freeze–thaw conditions. The Battery Pack version adds an insulated lithium battery pack protected by thermal buffers for fully autonomous off-grid use. Optional accessories include an external solar panel adapter, a remote telemetry/temperature logger and an anti-theft bracket system.
The internal space is approximately 10.0 × 17.5 × 10.4 in (254 × 445 × 264 mm) after insulation, which accommodates compact seismographs, accelerographs, infrasound dataloggers, telemetry radios, GPS timing modules, chargers and batteries on the removable internal mounting plate.
