OVERVIEW

Description

QL-Downhole Studio by QuakeLogic is professional downhole seismic analysis software for P-wave and S-wave testing. It helps engineers process borehole seismic data, identify wave arrivals, calculate velocity profiles, and prepare technical reports.

The software combines SEG-2 data processing, seismic velocity modeling, Vs30 calculations, and quality control in one platform. In addition, it preserves original field records and tracks every analysis step.

Advanced Downhole Seismic Data Processing

QL-Downhole Studio supports SEG-2 seismic records from borehole surveys. First, the software checks imported files for missing channels, duplicate records, and other data issues.

Users can then review warnings and approve suggested corrections. Moreover, the software keeps original records unchanged throughout the analysis.

It also provides Butterworth filters, notch filters, gain control, and trace balance. As a result, engineers can improve waveform clarity while preserving their raw data.

Automatic P-Wave and S-Wave Picking

The downhole seismic analysis software includes automatic first-arrival picking for P-waves and S-waves. Available methods include AIC, STA/LTA, and modified energy ratio.

Each automatic pick receives a confidence score based on signal quality and arrival features. Therefore, users can identify picks that need further review.

In addition, engineers can adjust picks manually or compare arrivals at nearby depths. Manual picks remain protected unless the user chooses to replace them.

Advanced S-Wave Analysis

QL-Downhole Studio supports opposite-direction S-wave measurements. It compares S+ and S− records to help identify shear-wave arrivals.

The software also provides difference traces, waveform correlation, and polarization analysis. Furthermore, users can apply horizontal component rotation when needed.

These tools help engineers review shear-wave signals and evaluate their consistency across measurement depths.

Seismic Velocity Modeling

QL-Downhole Studio provides four methods for velocity analysis. These include layer regression, pseudo-interval velocity, true-interval velocity, and refracted-ray layer stripping.

Users can also choose ordinary least squares or robust Huber regression for layer fitting. In addition, the software suggests layer boundaries from changes in travel-time trends.

The model displays P-wave and S-wave velocity profiles. As a result, engineers can review subsurface layer properties and compare alternative interpretations.

Vs30 and Geotechnical Engineering Calculations

The software calculates Vs30 from measured shear-wave data covering the required depth. It also supports time-averaged velocity calculations for custom depth intervals.

Furthermore, QL-Downhole Studio calculates Poisson’s ratio and elastic properties when suitable data are available. These include shear modulus, Young’s modulus, and bulk modulus.

Users must provide density values or select an estimation method. The software clearly labels estimated values and any results based on extrapolation.

Built-In Quality Control

QL-Downhole Studio includes automatic checks for seismic data and model quality. It identifies weak arrivals, timing issues, unusual velocity changes, and poor model fits.

Each finding includes an explanation and a link to the related data. Therefore, users can review possible problems before finalizing their interpretation.

The software also provides an overall quality status. This helps engineers identify results that need additional review.
